Women Behind the Camera - International Women’s Day Celebration

Two films and discussion panel on women’s impact on film industry.

What does working in the film industry “behind the scenes” look like from a woman’s perspective? How much room is there for creative freedom, and how much is taken up by organization, logistics, and compromise? On International Women’s Day, we want to celebrate the work of all women in the film industry by recognizing the results of their efforts. Kino Praha will host a panel discussion, “Women Behind the Camera”, dedicated to women’s work in film production.

The discussion will take as its starting point the film Nie ma duchów w mieszkaniu na Dobrej, directed by Emi Buchwald. After the screening, the panel discussion will begin, and the evening will conclude with a screening of Alpha, directed by Julia Ducournau. The event is open to anyone interested in the behind-the-scenes work of filmmaking, and especially to girls and women seeking their professional path in the audiovisual industry.

During the panel, participants will attempt to answer questions such as:

• What does the day-to-day work of a production manager look like?

• How should one start when dreaming of designing film sets?

• How much artistic freedom does an editor have in her work?

  Speakers sharing their experiences will include:

• Ewa Mroczkowska – Production Designer

• Patrycja Kycia – Production Manager

• Anna Komosa – Production Coordinator

  The discussion will be moderated by Anna Tatarska, film critic and journalist.

  The panel aims not only to provide insight into the realities of working in the film industry but also to create a space for exchanging experiences and comparing perspectives from different production departments. It is an event for those who want to better understand how films are made—and for those considering their future on the other side of the camera.
